Steps to take today to protect your health tomorrow
I vividly remember the exact moment that changed my world forever.
It was a sunny April Sunday, and I was a little hungover. We’d overindulged the night before, celebrating the start of patio season. As I chased two Advil with water, my phone started ringing incessantly. At first, I ignored it.
Annoyed by the persistent ringing, I finally answered, to hear my aunt’s voice on the line. The words she spoke were incomprehensible, “Your mother had a heart attack this morning and died.”
My mother, a vibrant and healthy 72-year-old, was active, healthy and in great shape. My inspiration for aging well. And yet somehow, she’d had a heart attack and was dead. My world ground to a halt as I struggled to make sense of these words.Â
I now know that the risk of cardiovascular disease increases after menopause. In fact, cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death for women. And now knowing my mother’s medical history and with menopause approaching, it’s clear I need to talk to my doctor about my risks and prevention options.
Especially since this is just one of the risks that increases for women after menopause. We’re also at a greater risk for things like osteoporosis, diabetes, and dementia.
These aren’t just statistics—they’re wake-up calls to make simple lifestyle changes to reduce these risks and improve our health span.
My mother’s strength and spirit is our inspiration this week. We hope we inspire you to take action today for a healthier tomorrow.
 xoxo Michelle
