Have you felt betrayed by your changing body? For me, it was when I turned 40 and suddenly gained 12 lbs overnight. Mood swings and low libido torpedoed date nights. Sleepless nights left me exhausted and anxious. Brain fog sabotaged my work.
Honestly, it felt like my body had declared war on me. So, of course, I fought back. Hard.
And yet, I was losing every battle. Weight gain, sleep struggles, anxiety, and rage continued to consume me. And then one day, I broke. No fight left, I threw my hands in the air, waived the white flag, and surrendered.
And in that moment, everything started to shift. In the quiet that followed (I simply didn’t have the energy to do much), I began to listen. Really listen – to my body, my heart, and my intuition.
I realized these changes were actually my body trying to communicate. Exhaustion was a plea to slow down. Mood swings were urgent reminders to prioritize self-care. I realized I couldn’t keep pushing through. My body wasn’t whispering anymore; it was screaming for love and respect.
So I leaned in. I stopped comparing myself to 25 year-old me. I cut myself some slack, eased up on self-criticism, and started talking to myself like a good friend. I practice gratitude for life’s little wonders. Well, at least I try to, and most days I succeed.
I encourage you to do the same.
Lean into this new stage of life. Into the wisdom of your changing body. Practice self-compassion. Allow yourself to be human, and make mistakes. Redefine your priorities. Let go of who you think you should be and celebrate who you are becoming.
And of course, we’ve got some inspiration to help you get started. So let’s all lean in…
